Today’s find was created for web designers, but is a great tool for anyone involved in launching a new website. Launchlist is a simple one-page website made up of a comprehensive checklist to be completed before a website is published. The site was “born out of frustration” by two Australian designers in need of a solution for formerly inefficient methods of preparing websites for publication. In addition to the practicality of the site, the design is whimsical and well done.

Friday, June 18th, 2010Tips & Tricks: CMS
Thursday, June 17th, 2010CMS is short for Content Management System, a type of program that when used on the web allows designated website content to be edited without the need for writing or editing HTML code. This means that anyone who can operate a word processing program can edit the contents of a website if it is set up with a CMS.
Friday Finds: Music Online
Friday, June 11th, 2010
Today’s find focuses a couple different websites with a common theme. Like a lot of professionals, creative and otherwise, I often have music playing in my office while I work. Depending on the task at hand, I find that certain music makes my quiet office a happier place to work. In my personal work environment, I enjoy quiet background music while I design, edit and take care of things around the office. Since the music I listen to usually has lyrics, I tend to turn it off while writing or copy editing as I find the lyrics to be more of a distraction in such cases.
Tips & Tricks: Web Fonts
Tuesday, June 8th, 2010![]()
With the recent release of Google’s Font API, this seemed an appropriate time to address web fonts in the Tips & Tricks section. Fonts used for the web are in some ways more limited than the fonts available for print or electronic design. Web safe fonts used to be dependent on each browser’s settings; today there are numerous ways to incorporate specialty fonts into your website. (more…)
Friday Finds: The Big Picture
Friday, June 4th, 2010
This week’s find is The Big Picture, a blog published three times a week by Alan Taylor at The Boston Globe. The Big Picture collects and compiles high quality news images from main stream media sources like the Associated Press, Getty Images and Reuters. This site appeals to me on many levels- as a photographer I really appreciate the physical and artist quality of these images. They are stunning on my wide screen monitor (none of that pixelated low resolution nonsense that is a necessary evil on most sites), and everything from the subject matter to composition, contrast and focus are always spot on.
Logo Collection
Wednesday, June 2nd, 2010
In this spirit of Spring, I bring you a blog post full of cheerful color. Today, I have for you a collection of colorful logos, some of which made the cut with clients and others that have sat quietly on my hard drive, waiting for their moment to shine. Until today. Today they are let free to glisten in the sun and catch your eye and all the other wonderful things logos are meant to do. Some will look familiar, as they sit proudly in the headers of various GetCreative designed websites, while others are new to the public eye. Contact us for logo design information and pricing. Enjoy!
