Wow, this short month really got away from me in the blogging department! My apologies, but I promise my absence was not without reason. Here is a recap of what has been keeping GetCreative busy since my last blog post.

Tuesday, January 24th, 2012Accompanying our new post series ‘The List’ is another new series here at Getting Creative called Trend Spotting. The inspiration for this topic comes from the creative forces at Design Shack, and the posts will focus on current trends in the design world. I will provide examples and critique the usage of each trend as it applies to the web design, graphic design and/or photography industries.

Seasonal Fonts
Wednesday, December 7th, 2011If there is one thing designers love it is a good font used properly. When you pick a font to use, do you consider the readability? The lines? The shape and personality of the text? Choosing the correct font is a process, one that varies for every designer, and should not be taken for granted! Today’s roundup is a group of wintry fonts for fun. If you are ordering your Holiday Cards or creating a party invitation, consider one of these fonts to get your message across. Links to download are provided below, but remember to read and follow copyright instructions. Enjoy!
Holiday Cards
Wednesday, November 30th, 2011It’s that time of year again! Time to send out Holiday cards not only to your personal friends and family, but to your business contacts. It is a nice gesture to wish your professional peers happiness during this season and good fortune in the New Year. This post contains a small collection of Holiday Cards designed by GetCreative for a few of our clients.
Client Profile: The Vintage Junkie
Monday, November 21st, 2011The Vintage Junkie is a local business in Lynchburg, VA featuring the artistic talents of Amy Calandra. The Vintage Junkie boasts a gorgeous collection of re-purposed vintage jewelry and accessories, and is Amy’s second business venture. (We are currently discussing a new look for her first company’s website, Light of Mine Designs, as well.) Working with a fellow artist on this project was a nice change from some of my more business-oriented clients; Amy’s input certainly influenced the creative design of the site. Friday Finds: Tagxedo
Friday, October 7th, 2011
Last year we featured Wordle in a post, and today we take it one step further. Welcome to Tagxedo, ‘word clouds with style’! This is a quick and fun distraction, with a lot of room for customization. The font type, color, shape, orientation and layout can all be tweaked for each word cloud. There are preset color themes and shapes for you to choose from, or create a Pro account and make your own! You can input the words you’d like used, or submit a website URL and Tagxedo will generate the words for you. Keep reading to see my own unique word art below.
Friday Finds: Background Patterns
Friday, June 17th, 2011As I hinted at last week previously, I have a great resource for background patterns to share with you. The simple program for creating backgrounds at BGPatterns.com has become one of my favorite tools lately. The possibilities are endless, with results ranging from sleek and polished to grungy vintage. Read on to see details and more examples of this great resource.
Friday Finds: Geeky Fashion
Friday, May 27th, 2011Today’s Find is a roundup of great t-shirts for web designers with a sense of humor. There’s nothing like an extremely nerdy t-shirt for a good laugh (Big Bang Theory, anyone?*). I just recently discovered nerdy t-shirts made specifically for designers, and I knew I had to share. Below are some of my favorites, with links to where you can buy them. Enjoy!
Friday Finds: Font Squirrel
Friday, April 29th, 2011
I’ve talked before about web safe fonts, and the alternative options for using beyond-the-basics fonts in web design. Google’s Font API, for example, has been a go-to resource for many of my web design projects. Recently though I have found myself embedding fonts more and more often. Read on to find out why and for a helpful resource.
Roundup: PowerPoint Designs
Wednesday, March 30th, 2011Microsoft’s PowerPoint is a program that, for me at least, conjures up bad memories of monotonous High School presentations. Presentations that, no matter what the subject, all used the same old ambiguous backgrounds time after time. Today I have a roundup of PowerPoint designs that break the mold in the best of ways. These unique and interesting designs will take any presentation to the next level, and maybe even keep your audience engaged! Check out some great sources and how to make your own PP Design below.
